DIY: Natural Homemade Body Oil / Moisturizer

Saturday, December 22, 2012

Since I'm pretty desperate to have my stretch marks eliminated, I've whipped up this body oil/moisturizer made up of ingredients that I've heard are effective in the treatment of stretch marks.

Ingredients:
1 part sunflower oil
1 part grapeseed oil
1 part aloe vera gel
vitamin e oil from 6 capsules

Wish me luck! Will update on the results! I know stretch marks won't really go away completely. But here's to hoping they will fade more quickly with this concoction!

By Nature Olive Beauty Soap: A Review

Friday, December 21, 2012

I really love organic, unscented soaps because I never want my soaps to mix with the smell of my perfume.

I also have really sensitive skin that's a little on the dry side. I've heard good things about By Nature soaps so I tried this one out.

PROS:
- very moisturizing. Sometimes I feel like I don't need to put on lotion/body oil after shower

CONS:
- melts easily. true for all organic soaps anyway so I don't mind.
- it claims that it is unscented (good for those who, like me, wear perfumes all the time.) BUT I do detect a subtle smell that kind of lingers even after shower.
- more expensive than other organic soap brands.

Remember, the trick is to cut the soap in little pieces so as not to melt them easily :)

RATING: 4.5/5

Would I repurchase? The moisturization is unparalleled by other organic soaps that I have tried so YES. I make sure I always have this one in my bathroom.

Cyleina Tomato Soap: A Review

I bought this for 2 reasons. I've heard that it tightens pores and whitens skin.

I needed that for my oily, acne-prone skin so I tried this one. It's available in watson's for 105php/200g.

I don't like this soap at all. Here we go:

PROS:
- lathers well

CONS:
- dried out my skin
- smells like candy but it doesn't smell pleasant for me
- stings.
- I also had pimples after just using this twice so I had to stop using it on my face.
- when I used it on my body, my allergies stung. I never got the stinging sensation from other organic soaps I've tried.

RATING: 0/5 I know some girls swear by it. I swear it.

Would I repurchase? NO WAY. I might try other cyleina soap variants, though.

Ilog Maria Lavender & Honey Relaxing Soap: A Review

This is another one of my favorite organic soaps!
71.50/ 95g  from the Ilog Maria Website.

PROS:
- smells soooooo great! I love Lavender and I use this in my before bedtime bath! very relaxing indeed!
- doesn't dry out skin after wash.
- ok for my sensitive skin

CONS:
- oh the usual with organic soaps: doesn't lather well and melts faster than commercial soap. I do not mind one bit if it means I'm not exposing myself to harmful chemicals :)

Tip:
- cut prganic soaps in little pieces so the whole thing won't melt in the shower when it gets wet.
- use bath gloves or loofah to help with the lather issue.

RATING: 5/5

Would I repurchase? YES. Alongside the Milk and Honey Soap. Might also give their other ones a try.

Ilog Maria Milk & Honey Moisturizing Soap: A Review

I don't have much to say other than I love this so let's get down to the pros and cons!

PROS:
- Doesn't dry out skin.
- Gentle for my sensitive skin. I also had open wounds one time I used this and no stings!
- I looooove the smell sooo much! Reminds me of pastillas but with a floral twist. (But I'm bad at describing smells so maybe that's just me!)
- I even tried it on my face a few times. No breakouts!

CONS:
- Doesn't lather very well. But that's true for most all-organic products so I really don't mind. I just use bath gloves and this isn't a problem anymore.
- Melts easily. Again, true for most organic products. I don't mind as well.

I bought this from the Ilog Maria website at  71.50/95g. Not bad. The trick with organic soaps is to cut them in halves/little pieces so the whole thing won't melt when they get wet in the shower.

RATING: 5/5

Would I repurchase? YES. This and the lavender one. I'm also kinds curious about the other soap variants. :)

Ilog Maria Honey and Propolis Shampoo: A Review

I have mentioned this product before in a previous post but let me make a separate review post :)

Let it be known that this is one of my favorite organic shampoos!

PROS:
- I like the smell. Smells herbal and kind of chocolatey. Might not be for everyone, though.
- No hair fall during wash!
- Leaves hair with a minty feeling!
- No tangles after even without conditioner

CONS:
- Since it's organic, it doesn't easily lather. but that's fine by me.
- I tend to use a lot with every wash because like I said, it doesn't easily lather. With my long hair, I go through one bottle with just around 10 washes.
- Hair feels stringy after wash but hair is fine after it dries.

RATING: 4.5/5

Would I Repurchase? Of course! I have to say, though that this shampoo may not be for everyone. It does not make hair soft and shiny like commercial shampoos do with all those nasty silicones. It works for me because it gives me peace of mind with the non-harmful ingredients. Maybe you ought to try the small bottle first?

*Tips:
- If you have really oily hair prior to washing, or if you do the hair oil pre-shampoo regimen, you might want to shampoo twice because it's not that effective at eliminating grease.
- Don't brush/comb when hair is wet. It's fine when hair is all stringy and tangly while still wet after using this as shampoo. Hair is ok when it dries. If you can't take it, you may go for Ilog Maria's Royal Jelly Hair Oil. Haven't tried that one, though I use Human Nature's Sunflower Oil when I really need extra shine :)

ZEN ORGANICS Gugo Strengthening Shampoo: A Review

Ever since I swore off conditioners, I've been on the lookout for a great organic shampoo that strengthens hair, promotes hair growth and does not make my hair fall during wash. I came across reviews all over the internet swearing by Z.E.N. Organics Gugo Shampoo so I gave it a go.

I bought my first bottle for 195 but now they have increased the price to 225 :/

PROS:
- smells nice... kind of like green tea.
- washes out easily so it doesn't contribute to hair fall
- lathers well.

CONS:
-  has SLES

I can't really say much about hair growth because I've only been through one bottle and of course I'd have to wait a long time for new hair to grow out. BUT I really love that it does not make my hair fall during wash. I mean it! Before, the drain was always full of hair after shower. Nowadays, I can barely see any sometimes. It might not be solely because of this shampoo. Like I said in my previous posts, I'm pretty sure it's because I stopped using conditioners. Right now, I'm just happy that I've found a good organic shampoo that doesn't worsen my hair fall.

RATING: 4/5 (I just really wish there's no SLES)

Would I Repurchase? Until I find something that does a decent job without any SLES, I'll stick to this one. Plus, this is the most convenient to buy. Other organic products, I'd have to buy online and shell out shipping fees.
